Ricardo Vilas Freire is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist who uses performance to discuss collective social practices. His research explores competitive spaces and everyday landscapes, games with pre-established rules and informal ones, generating collaborative projects and objects that question ideas of success, failure, productivity, labor, and site-specific behaviors.
Graduated with distinction as BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, his work has been exhibited nationally in Brazil at the 5th International Performance Festival Imaginários Urbanos (Fortaleza, Ceará, São Luís, Maranhão, Rio de Janeiro, RJ), at Ocupação Artística Paulo Nazareth (Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais), and internationally at the Chicago Athletic Association (Chicago, USA), as well as in various alternative art spaces.
He participated as artist and created the visual identity for the 7th Sertão Biennial of Visual Arts “Poetry in Confluence”.
